Project objective

Design and implementation of an automatic line for measuring the weight and size of postal items.

Task description by the customer - "Russian Post"

Russian Post – the Russian state postal network operator – sorts and dispatches a large number of parcels every day. A conveyor control system which can automatically determine the size, weight of postal items and reject goods must be developed and implemented. Automatic barcode reading must be provided. An operator’s workstation complete with a monitor must be installed in the vicinity of the system.

Solution key features
  • The operator puts the parcel onto the conveyor;
  • The parcel passes through the measuring system, its dimensions and weight are determined, the barcode is automatically read, all data is entered into the local database;
  • The data is transferred to the WMS system;
  • The parcel is sent to the main conveyor;
  • Should there occur a barcode reading error, the parcel is rejected and the operator manually reads the departure code;
  • The operating modes change is carried out by the operator via a computer with a monitor and a control system located in the vicinity of the system.

  4. Delivery to the place of installation;
  5. Installation, testing. Putting the system into operation. Commissioning works are being carried out in order to set up the interaction of electrical equipment systems in various modes.

  • Simatic S7-1200 controller;
  • SCADA system;
  • OCS weighing system;
  • set of Sick equipment for barcode scanning and dimensioning;
  • industrial computer.
